DENTURES
Dentures are removable (or implanted) prosthetic appliances custom made to precisely fit your mouth and while there is an adjustment period, modern dentures can look very natural and feel comfortable. Thanks to the continued evolution of dentistry, dentures are no longer a last resort and when designed well, they can be indistinguishable from natural teeth. They should not be looked at as something to be feared and for older people especially, they can improve the quality of life.
Helpful Hint:
In order to maintain your new dentures, remember that your gums and jaw bone will continue to recede once the natural teeth are gone. You should visit your dentist regularly so he can monitor the fit of your new teeth and reline them if necessary. Avoid over the counter, do-it-yourself products and remember to clean your dentures every day just as you would natural teeth to keep them natural looking and odor free.
IMPLANTS
When a tooth is missing, a dental implant can be a great solution. The actual implant is a small, titanium post that replaces the root of a missing tooth. From there a custom-fitted artificial tooth, referred to as a restoration, is secured to the implant. Implants are a useful tool for a variety of restorations and look and feel much like natural teeth. They also stimulate the jawbone when you chew which keeps it healthy. With regular checkups and cleanings along with careful home care, an implant can be an excellent long-term solution for missing teeth. After a thorough examination, a discussion regarding your health history and treatment goals, Dr. Bachman will determine if an implant is right for you.

Care for your dental implants just as well as you would care for your natural teeth. Thorough oral hygiene is necessary to prevent diseases around the implants. With proper home care and regular professional maintenance, you can keep your new teeth throughout life.
